Quarantine Measures to Prevent the Invasion of African Swine Fever and Other Major Animal Diseases

  1. As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, past data suggests a likely increase in illegal importation of animal products. In order to safeguard Taiwan’s agricultural safety and prevent the spread of animal diseases, we urge all international students to fully cooperate with Taiwan’s quarantine regulations. Please do not bring any animal or plant products into Taiwan. Additionally, inform your family and friends abroad not to send pork products or other animal quarantine items to Taiwan by mail, to avoid penalties.

  2. If pork products are illegally brought into Taiwan from countries or regions affected by African Swine Fever (ASF) in the past three years, violators will face the following penalties:

    • First offense: NT$200,000 fine.

    • Second offense: NT$1,000,000 fine.

    • Individuals without Taiwan residency who fail to pay the NT$200,000 fine on the spot may be denied entry by the National Immigration Agency, as enforced by the regional branch of the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ), Ministry of Agriculture.

Furthermore, from May 20, 2022, any recipient in Taiwan who is found to have received mailed pork products from ASF-affected countries (after verification) will be fined:

    • First offense: NT$200,000

    • Second offense or more: NT$1,000,000
