The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) is organizing the 2024 “Global Overseas Chinese School Students and Overseas Students Singing Competition” to encourage global overseas Chinese school students, overseas Chinese descendants, students from Taiwanese language centers, and domestic overseas students to strengthen their Chinese language skills by singing Chinese, Hokkien, and Hakka songs.
Schedule:
- Online Preliminary: June 13 to July 28.
- Online Semifinal: August 3 to August 18 (upload competition videos to the event website). After evaluation, the finalists will be announced by August 28.
- Finals: September 21.
Event Details:
- Online Preliminary: Participants must register on the event website, choose one of the designated songs to sing, and the AI system will score based on preset criteria. The top 100 groups will be selected.
- Online Semifinal: Participants will choose one song from a set list, record a video in one take, and upload it to the event website. No post-production or audio editing allowed. A professional jury will select 15 finalists, with the possibility of additional finalists chosen based on the inclusion of Hokkien and Hakka songs.
- Finals: Participants can choose one of the designated songs (different from the semifinal) or sing an original song (must be in Chinese, Hokkien, or Hakka). The final will be a live performance.
Rules:
- Song Selection: The preliminary and semifinal must use one of the designated songs, while the finals may use a designated song or an original composition.
- Total Song Selection: 35 songs available—15 in Chinese, 10 in Hokkien, and 10 in Hakka.
- Arrangement and Accompaniment: In the online preliminary, participants must follow the AI system’s instrumental track. In the semifinals and finals, participants can arrange the songs and use accompaniment.
Prizes:
- 1st Prize: NT$100,000
- 2nd Prize: NT$60,000
- 3rd Prize: NT$30,000
- Excellence Award: NT$10,000 for 3 winners.
- Special Awards: Best Hokkien Song Performance and Best Hakka Song Performance, each with NT$30,000.
The first-place winner from domestic overseas students will perform at the National Day Celebration.
Subsidy:
- Travel and accommodation subsidies for finalists traveling from other cities to Taipei.
- Winners who perform at the National Day event will receive a subsidy for costume, makeup, and accommodation expenses (up to NT$25,000).
- Winners in the top 3 can choose music training courses, with a subsidy of up to NT$30,000 for training.
