Regulations of working after graduation in Taiwan for Foreign and Overseas
Chinese students

I. Regulations of work-study for foreign students
(I) According to the Employment Service Law, employers who hire foreign students studying in
public or registered private colleges/universities, public or registered private high-level secondary
schools or other students of Chinese descent who are engaged in work are not restricted by this law
(the scope of employers employing foreigners to work in Taiwan). Therefore, foreign students and
overseas Chinese students can apply for work permits in accordance with the above regulations if
they work part-time outside of the course hours.
(II) In addition, according to the law, overseas Chinese and foreign students currently studying in
Taiwan who has obtained the work permission issued by the Ministry of Labor, the maximum
working hours can be up to 20 hours per week. There is no limit on the number of hours during
summer and winter vacations.
II. There are two application methods for overseas Chinese and foreign graduates to apply for work in
Taiwan
(I) General specialized or technical work: According to the qualifications for foreigners to engage in
working, foreigners must meet one of the following qualifications: 
1. Obtained certificates or qualifications in accordance with the Special Occupation and Technical
Personnel Examination Law. 
2. Obtained a master's degree or higher from a related institution in Taiwan or abroad, or a
bachelor's degree from a related institution with more than 2 years of relevant work experience. 
3. Serving multinational companies for more than one year and have been assigned to work in
Taiwan. 

4. Had professional training or self-study for more than 5 years of relevant experience and have
original ideas and special performance; and those who have been employed with a monthly salary
of NT$47,971 (the same below).
(II) Quota system for overseas Chinese and foreign students: 
The Ministry of Labor sets the qualifications for foreigners to engage in work by the examination
standard from July 2014. College graduates applying for specialized or technical work permits
would be evaluated by a quota system of 8 fields: academic qualifications, work experience, hiring
salary, job qualifications, foreign language ability, growth experience abroad, and cooperation with
government policies. Overseas Chinese and foreign students can be hired to work in Taiwan with a
score of 70 points and the employer is qualified for hiring foreign professional technicians.
